Licence and source code
This site uses Chessground, Lichess's chessboard library, released under the GNU GPL v3. The combined work may therefore be distributed only under that same licence, and its source code must be made available to its users. The repository is public: the link below is that availability.
The code and the content are licensed separately
The software behind this site is licensed under the GNU GPL v3 or later. The teaching content — the French and English text, the move commentary, the choice of lines shown and the design of the exercises — is a separate work, merely gathered together with the code in one repository.
That content is available under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 licence. You may share it as it is, free of charge, crediting the club. You may not sell it, nor publish a modified or translated version of it.
The distinction is substance, not shape: the schemas, the field names and the file format remain GPL software. You are free to take this site, write your own lessons and publish them, commercially if you like — it is our lessons specifically that cannot be reused that way.
For anything this licence does not allow, just ask — for a school or a community club the answer is very likely yes.
Piece set
The pieces shown on the boards are the "cburnett" set, drawn by Colin M. L. Burnett and released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 licence. It is used as-is, unmodified.
Credits and resource licences
Resources marked with an asterisk are under share-alike licences (GPL, CC BY-SA): crediting them is an obligation, not a courtesy.

Data and analytics
The site sets no cookies and collects no personal data. Exercise progress is stored in your browser’s local storage, on your device only: it is never sent to us, and it disappears if you clear your browser.
If analytics are enabled, they use Umami — no cookies, and no identifier that could recognise you across sites. They stay switched off until configured.
Third-party requests
No resource is loaded from a third-party service without an explicit action from you. Fonts and images are served by this site. An embedded video loads only after you click its preview.
Videos, and what a click sends
Before you click, a video is a still image hosted by this site, a button and a title. Nothing is asked of YouTube, of Google or of anyone else: not the video, not its thumbnail, not a cookie, not even a DNS lookup. A page with a video on it loads exactly like a page without one.
If you press the play button, your browser then connects to YouTube (Google) to play the video. That connection tells Google: your IP address, information about your device and browser, which video was requested, and the address of this site — but not the particular page you were reading.
We use the youtube-nocookie.com domain, which does not set the advertising cookies the ordinary domain does. That is not "no data at all", and we will not present it as such: Google records the view and may store technical data in your browser for that domain. If you are signed in to a Google account in the same browser, the view may be attached to it.
The choice is yours and it stays yours: until you press play, nothing leaves your device. We receive no information about which videos you watch.
